There was snow on the hills just 15 minutes away. The weather was classic March British winter: rainstorm, then wind, then sun, but Mike & Darcie still had a beautiful elopement wedding at Woolacombe Bay Hotel!
With 4 friends as guests and witnesses, this super intimate elopement was exactly what you may want for a more private, relaxed wedding weekend.
With the loft suite for getting ready, Darcie could watch the ocean whilst having hair & makeup done - such a beautiful space! Darcie and Mike requested very relaxed photos of the day, to fit in with their overall vibe of enjoying the weekend away, but with beautiful images to document their memories. With the somewhat dramatic windy weather, we were limited on outdoor photography options, but we managed a beach photoshoot nonetheless, super impressed with Darcie's managing her dress and veil in the stormy winds!

5 Reasons to Have Your Wedding Photography on a Devon Beach
If you love the idea of relaxed, natural, and breathtaking wedding photos, the beaches of Devon are the perfect setting. With dramatic coastlines, soft light, and a calm atmosphere, Devon offers some of the most beautiful seaside backdrops in the UK. Here are five reasons why a beach in Devon is ideal for your wedding photography.
1. The light is unbeatable. Coastal light has a softness that’s hard to find anywhere else. The reflection from the sea and sand creates a natural glow that flatters every photo. Whether it’s the golden tones of sunrise or the pink hues of sunset, beach light gives your images warmth and depth that feels timeless.
2. Natural, relaxed photos. There’s something about being by the sea that instantly puts people at ease. You can walk barefoot, laugh, and simply be yourselves without worrying about stiff poses. The sound of the waves and open space help create genuine, carefree moments that look and feel completely natural.
3. A stunning variety of backdrops. Devon’s coastline is full of variety, from rugged cliffs and rock pools to wide sandy bays and hidden coves. You can capture a mix of landscapes in one shoot, from sweeping coastal views to close, intimate shots by the water’s edge. It adds texture and diversity to your wedding gallery.
4. Perfect for post-wedding or couple sessions. If you want to relax and take your time, plan a post-wedding shoot on the beach a day or two after the wedding. Without the pressure of timing, you can explore freely and enjoy the scenery. It’s ideal for couples who want more creative photos without missing time with guests on the big day.
5. A timeless setting. Beach photography never goes out of style. The natural tones, open horizons, and sense of space give your photos a classic, timeless look. Devon’s beaches combine all of that with a laid-back charm that makes every image feel effortless and full of emotion.
Why it works. Devon beaches bring together everything photographers love: great light, texture, and genuine emotion. Whether you’re drawn to the drama of the cliffs or the calm of a quiet bay, the coast offers a backdrop that feels both wild and romantic. It’s the perfect place to capture the joy and connection that make your wedding story uniquely yours.
